Pippi Kid
Chiara Fumai, alias Pippi Kid, was born in Rome in the year of Never Say Die by Black Sabbath, studied in a gesuits school and graduated in Architecture at Politecnico di Milano.
She produces videos, installations, performances, drawings and audio.Besides being a visual artist, she as been working with techno music in last four years, becoming a respected disc jockey (formerly known as dj Pippi Langstrumpf) and playing in nine countries.
Pippi lives and works in Milan and Switzerland, her best friend is a famous magician and she has never been to Ibiza.
"Profane yet irreverent, serious but witty, Chiara Fumai reveals a universe where reality and fiction collide into each other causing an electroshock..Her work dilates and transforms stories taken from her private and family life into real counterfeits. Her father, Nico Fumai, is introduced as a famous singer with an internationally acclaimed discography, while her grandmother's hair, -her model of beauty- is transformed into the long pigtails of the Moustache Woman, whose very personal items were for sale on Ebay.
The artist portrays her stage persona as an elegant princess ready to disturb the performance of dj Pippi. Dressed in traditional cretan clothes, Fumai performs the controversial rembetiko song, "Eimai Prezakias" (I'm a junkie) originally performed by Roza Eskenazy in 1934: what sounds hilarious and funny to the unaware public hides dreadful lyrics.
Through art and entertainment, her work provides a reflection about the female role and the stereotypes imposed by the contemporary society."
